What we do

Campaigns

The 2019-2020 EJA Board had various campaigns that we focused on.

  • EJA Conference 2020 – Our first ever conference is in the making! The theme this year is “Our Earth, Our Communities, Ourselves: Mobilizing for Collective Action.” We hope to identify the love and crucial changes Our Earth deserves, build the resilience and strength (in relationships and magnitude) Our Community needs, and, finally and always, attend to the quality of care and rest Ourselves are entitled to. This event did not take place due to the transition to remote learning.
  • Sustainable Practices Policies – The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is considering incorporating environmental justice and social justice in the UC-wide Sustainable Practices Policy. Please share your knowledge on how justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion could be added to this policy for a sustainable future for all those impacted by the UC! Please email Ajar Kerey for more info and feedback at ajarkerey@ucsb.edu!
  • UCSB delegation to UC Berkeley’s Students of Color Environmental Collective Conference
Apply to be a part of UCSB’s delegation to UC Berkeley’s Student of Color Environmental Conference on APRIL 11th, 2020! This is an unique opportunity to share and highlight the experiences of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) from various communities up north and across the UC system. We will empower one another through our work in our own communities and home campuses! Berkeley’s FB event. UCSB Delegation Page HERE.
    • Apply HERE for the UCSB Delegation form BEFORE 5PM on Mar 13th!!
    • IN ADDITION to our application, you must RSVP on Berkeley’s form HERE as well!
    • If you would like to host a workshop, then they have a form for you HERE
    • All UCSB students are welcomed and all expenses covered!!! Can’t wait to see yall there!
  • Student Wellness Campaign – We know that it is difficult being a scholar activist here at UCSB and for the world, we hope to provide spaces that are comforting and empowering. Hopefully prepare students and community members with ways to channel all our energies to something else we feel good about. We host a wide variety of events such as Climate Anxiety event, Zine making event, and more! For more info, please contact Ruth Alcantara at ralcantara@as.ucsb.edu!
  • Volunteering and Community Building – EJA hosts various field trips and toxic tours in collaboration with other organizations on and off campus like CAUSE, C3JN. Our next tour is on March 7th at Bakersfield! For more info please email as-environmentaljustice@ucsb.edu!
